Healing is Possible

Updated: May 23, 2021

God’s love is so powerful that he can take our biggest hurts and transform them into something so beautiful it won’t make sense to anyone. This was a reminder I received at

the Healing is Possible conference. Dr. Wendy Hofman, PhD, explained that healing is transformational. It comes through acknowledging our woundedness, brokenness and unforgiveness. Getting to the root of issues that keep us in bondage. Healing is not an emotion. It is an act done with total reliance on God.

Sharing her own experience of healing, Tima Borges touched on the core of each Christian, “Our identity is not found in our wounds, it is found in our soul which is transformed in our Baptism”. As St. Catherine of Siena said, “in knowing ourselves, we know God.” God is in more control of our lives than we are ourselves.

Fr. Louis de Vaugelas guided us in a unique way of healing through scripture. His message was to put a biblical name to a person. Putting ourselves and our trials in the very center of

the gospels, helps us ease the burden we carry ourselves. Christ wants to carry

them for us and in turning to scripture, we can comprehend in a human language,

God working in us, healing.

On a more practical level William Stanus shared another way of experiencing wellness. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EDMR) is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. Healing comes from a total reliance on

God and the openness to Him. In doing so, we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us to take proper action.

It was a day filled with hope, as many shared positive experiences of healing and expressed a desire for future healing conferences.
