ECYD Ontario’s First Soccer Tournament

On April 13, 2026, ECYD Ontario made history with its very first soccer tournament for all Challenge and Conquest club members in the area, open to Grades 4 and up - and wow, did the energy deliver!

What began as one young man’s inspiration quickly grew into an incredible community celebration. A former ECYD member and now a newly associated Regnum Christi young adult, Mikel Korsun approached Joe and Sam (our RCMC Missionaries) with a simple idea: bring ECYD members and their families together for a fun day of competition and fellowship.

That idea took off like a breakaway goal. Conquest and Challenge leaders jumped in, parents volunteered to coach, supervise, and many others generously offered their time and talent. Through God’s providence, the indoor soccer field - Scrossopi FC Academy, named after the patron saint of soccer, was generously offered by a community member to make this day possible.

With over 100 players competing, 60 parents and friends cheering from the sidelines, and one amazing barbecue lunch, the day was buzzing with energy. 

While some weren’t too concerned about winning, there was definitely a healthy sense of competition in the air! Players gave it their all, showing not only determination but also great sportsmanship, celebrating each other’s victories, apologizing after the occasional collision, and even taking a knee when a fellow player needed a moment to recover.

Sure, a few players may have walked away with some bumps and sore muscles - but it was all worth it. In fact, many left hoping this becomes an annual tradition!

A big thank you to Mikel, RCMC, the organizing committee, and everyone who came alongside him to turn this simple idea into a memorable day. What a great success!
