A Life-Changing Experience: Reflections on the Young Women’s Silent Retreat

Writer: Regnum Christi OntarioRegnum Christi Ontario

Last month, 14 young women gathered in the tranquil beauty of Honey Harbor for a transformative experience at the Young Women's Silent Retreat. With the theme of Renewal in the Love of the Heart of Christ, the retreat was an invitation to pause, reflect, and deepen our relationship with God. Rooted in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, the retreat offered a space for personal growth, spiritual renewal, and reflection on the Principle and Foundation—the understanding of life’s true purpose in Christ.

Led by Fr. Adam Zettel, LC, the retreat was an opportunity to slow down and listen attentively to the voice of God, especially in the silence. As the retreat unfolded, the young women experienced a deeper awareness of their identity, who God is, and how we are called to live out our lives in the love of Christ’s heart.

One of the most powerful aspects of the retreat was hearing the testimony of those who attended. Here is the reflection from one young woman who shared her experience:

“I attended the Women’s Silent Retreat with an open heart, seeking God’s guidance. Even though I didn’t have a specific question, I knew that God knew exactly what I needed. Despite my regular prayers and attending mass, I felt lost and uncertain about my life’s direction. I was struggling with confusion and restlessness, wondering if I should change careers or try something new. There was a sense of emptiness, as if something crucial was missing, but I was hesitant to leave the comfort of my current lifestyle.

The retreat meditations and reflections, grounded in scripture, taught me that God is always communicating with us. The challenge is learning to listen. Through meditation and time in nature, God reminded me that I am loved, I am His, and that the true purpose of life is to love—which means to serve. I realized that I don’t need to worry about tomorrow but instead should serve every day as if it were my last. By doing so, I can meet Him one day when He calls me home.

This realization brought peace to my soul. I learned that I can serve God wherever I am—whether in my career or at home—because service is not tied to a particular job or place. It’s a daily calling, and it gives me purpose. I’m now able to live each day with calmness and joy, knowing that my life has meaning beyond the distractions and uncertainties of the world.” - Gabi S.

This reflection speaks to the heart of the retreat’s purpose: to encounter Christ’s love and deepen the understanding of our individual calling. For many, the retreat provided the space to hear God’s voice more clearly and to leave with a renewed sense of peace, direction, and purpose.
